Red Fog: Combat wounds will degrade the soldier’s mission stats.The remainder are available only after completing the full campaign at various difficulty levels. Hidden Potential: As a soldier is promoted, stats increase randomly.Not Created Equally: Rookies will have random starting stats.New Economy: Randomized council member funding.Damage Roulette: Weapons have a wider range of damage.Only four of options are available without completing the campaign: Many of these selectable mutators are only available once the campaign has been completed but will make a second attempt to hold ground against the mysterious alien incursions much more challenging.
The Second Wave is a free update which allows many gameplay factors to be changed (mostly for the more severe), giving the campaign and the tactics required a whole new lease of life.
